St. John Lutheran Church has guidelines for using our facilities, including Luther Hall, to ensure responsible and respectful usage:

  1. Member Use: Members may use facilities for events like weddings and reunions free of charge but must cover cleaning or damage costs. A $50 janitorial fee applies to most events except funerals.
  2. Non-Member Use: Non-members pay a $100 fee for utilities, excluding other service fees (e.g., musicians, custodians). Community organizations can use the space for free or reduced rates if aligned with the church’s mission.

B. CHURCH POLICIES: The following statements are designed to provide a basis of information and understanding regarding the use of the church facilities, by all parties involved from beginning to conclusion.

1. Use of Church Facilities:

a. Church Council establishes that the Church Policy for Members’ use of the church facilities for weddings, funerals, reunions, anniversaries and other such functions will be free of charge. Members will be responsible for cost of cleaning due to any misuse or accident incurred by them, such as wax on the carpets, rice thrown throughout the building, etc. Any broken or damaged Church Property will be completely PAID for by the group responsible.

b. A fee of $50 will be paid to the church for the janitor’s services for Weddings, Anniversaries and like-type functions. Funeral lunches are the exception. It is important to check the appropriate activity guidelines for
specific fees (example: weddings).

2. Use of Church Facilities:

a. Church Council establishes that the Church Policy for Non-Members use of the church facilities for weddings, funerals, reunions, anniversaries, baby/bridal showers and other like functions are asked to pay a fee of $100 for utilities and other expenses. This does not include the fee to be paid to the musician, pastor, sound tech, custodian or elevette operator (as needed). The elevette operator shall be paid a minimal fee of $20

b. As part of St. John’s ministry to the community, non-profit organizations, activities for community betterment and groups of a spiritually lifting nature (prayer groups) are encouraged to use the facilities for their meetings, etc. The organization is responsible for returning facilities to its original condition before leaving. For regular use, a fee to cover heat, air conditioning, lights and custodial services may be levied depending upon the nature of the organization and the extent of church use. (example: $100 for heat and lights for six months) Note also that an elevette operator will be present at all meetings and a minimal fee of $20 shall be paid for each meeting. It is important to check the appropriate activity guidelines

3. The borrowing or attempted renting of church-owned items such as furniture, tables, chairs and all kitchen items, anything attached or unattached belonging to St John Lutheran Church will NOT be permitted.

4. For all functions within the church a member of the congregation proficient in operating the elevette must be present. This includes member activities, rental functions and community activities. It is the responsibility of that person to help individuals enter, operate and exit the elevette safely. This means the person must be present throughout the entire event. Without control in this area there
could be reason for liability.

5. In all events where our Sound System will be in use, a member from our congregation proficient in the use of the Church’s Sound System must be present and operate it as requested.

6. EVERYONE who uses the Church Kitchen is responsible to see that it is restored to a Clean and sanitary condition. Everything should be back in its place and food stuffs, paper and garbage should be removed to the dumpster. Wet mop the kitchen floor when necessary. Make sure all water is shut off, garbage disposal is clean running, lights are off and the doors are locked.

7. It is expected that nothing will be done on the grounds around the church to detract from the general appearance of the church and parsonage, and that they be maintained as a unit to exhibit beautifully landscaped property.

8. NO animals will be permitted inside the church, unless an animal is a designated health/safety animal to a specific person.

9. Keys to open Church Doors will be assigned to the CHURCH PASTOR, COUNCIL PRESIDENT, CHURCH SECRETARY, CLEANING PERSONNEL, CHAIR PERSONS OF COMMITTEES, MUSICIANS, AND EVENTS COORDINATOR by the President of Council, through the Secretary’s office only. Keys should not be passed around to any member of the congregation unless approved, and documented by the President of Council and / or Church Secretary.

They will review the condition of the church and grounds. This is to ensure proper safety/maintenance and consider whether there are
necessary improvements to be made during the coming year.

11. Members of the congregation and all employed personnel should be encouraged to report safety or repair needs to the property chairperson as they are noted. If notification is left to a later time it could increase the damage and the repairs could become more costly. In case of an emergency where the urgency
endangers the health and safety of individuals, or a risk of damaging property it is necessary to call the needed service as quickly as possible.(flood, fire, medical, police, elevette) After calling emergency personnel it is important to call the Pastor, President of Council and Property Chairperson in that order.

12.Firearms: Prohibited unless prior permission is received from Council.

13.Smoking: Please note the Ohio State Law in regards to the SMOKING BAN and abide by the LAW as written. (see OHIO REVISED CODE sections 3794.01–.02–.04–05–.06)

14.Alcohol: Only communion wine is allowed on St. John Lutheran Church Property.
